The Freedom Writers

During the last week, I got the opportunity to watch 'The Freedom Writers'. This movie is about how this teacher, Mrs. Erin taught her class of students that were fighting to survive everyday out in the streets. As time went on, Mrs. Erin slowly united the students and stepped aside their grudges based on their etchnicity and skin colour by having different activities and events. Her students started to see the bigger picture of the world and got to see the cruel aftermath that almost wiped out a whole race that was caused from stereotyping people.

One of the activities that has bonded the students together was to write about anything they wished to inside their journal. Most of the students wrote about their uncertain daily lives that could just be ended in a blink of an eye just because of the discrimination of their races and gangs. Other than that, they also wrote about their fallout with their families because they wanted to join a gang on the street. During this activity, the students are able to express their feelings that they have kept within themselves because they have nobody to talk too except their shallow minded 'friends' who are their gang members that only care about their gang and nothing else. This shows that the students want to change but they don't have anyone to help them change until this moment when Mrs. Erin has helped them to change for the better.
